Set of four beige, white and chocolate ribbed 3D-printed vases of different heights grouped on an oak sideboard, the tallest at the back, a small one in front, no flowers

Vase Decor Ideas: Sets, Three Heights and the Empty Vase

6 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • A group of vases works when the heights differ clearly: tall, middle, low. Our ribbed vases run from 9.8 cm (small Shizu) to 24.5 cm (Hoji).
  • The quickest route is a ready mix: the set of 4 covers all three heights on 17.6 × 17.2 cm, the set of 2 is a pair of equals for a narrow shelf.
  • Ribbing, a fluted neck or a face profile carry a vase even when empty. All our vases are PLA: dried and artificial stems only, never water.

The best vase decor ideas do not start with flowers. They start with the group: how many vases, how tall, how far apart. Our set of 4 ribbed vases was put together for exactly that question: four shapes from 9.8 to 18.4 cm that fall into an arrangement on their own.

We 3D print these vases in Poland, from PLA, and style them on our own sideboards. Below: the three-heights rule, a height table across our range, ready set versus a mix of singles, and why a vase without a single stem is often the calmest version.

Vase decor ideas start with the group, not the flowers

One vase on a sideboard is an object. Three vases are a composition. The difference is not the flowers but the step between heights: two vases of 18.4 and 18.2 cm read as one block; add a third at 9.8 cm and the group gets a rhythm.

Our rule of thumb: an odd number, three heights, no two identical silhouettes. The tall piece sets the line, the middle one connects, the low one anchors the front. Tallest at the back or by the wall, lowest a little in front.

Two vases also work if they differ in character rather than size: in the set of 2 the wavy vase, 18.4 cm with soft undulating ribs, stands next to the twisted one, 18.2 cm with ribs that spiral around the body.

Three heights: our ribbed vases from 9.8 to 24.5 cm

All 3D printed in PLA to order in Poland. One from each level of height and the group is done.

Vase Height Footprint Role in the group
Hoji 24.5 cm Ø 10.4 cm the tall line: smooth body, fluted neck
Wavy (in the set of 4 and set of 2) 18.4 cm 9.1 × 7.5 cm tall and wide, soft wave
Twisted (in both sets) 18.2 cm 6.2 × 6.1 cm tall and slim, spiral ribs
Shinzo 18.1 cm Ø 15 cm middle height, bowl with stem tubes
Face 17.0 cm 10.4 × 9.6 cm middle height, more sculpture than vase
Shizu bottle vase (in the set of 4 and the HOME set) 12.4 cm Ø 7.4 cm low, ribbed bottle
Small Shizu (in the set of 4) 9.8 cm Ø 5.8 cm lowest, front of the group

A useful gap between tallest and lowest is around 8 to 15 cm. Hoji next to the 12.4 cm Shizu gives you that; Hoji next to Wavy reads as two tall vases and wants a third, low one.

A ready set or your own mix

The set of 4 ribbed vases is the three-heights rule in one order: wavy 18.4 cm, twisted 18.2 cm, Shizu bottle vase 12.4 cm and small Shizu 9.8 cm, about 17.6 × 17.2 cm of surface. Six colour mixes, Nature, Contrast, White, Metal, Sakura and Earth, each vase in its own colour from the mix; 161 g in total.

The set of 2 is the pair for a narrow shelf: wavy and twisted on about 16.4 × 10.3 cm, 87 g together. Wavy carries the main colour of the mix, twisted the companion colour, in six pairs from Beige and White to Gold and Silver.

If the group should also hold keys and an evening light, the boho HOME set works differently: a ribbed tray Juno of 20.1 cm, the Shizu vase, a holder for an LED tealight and a HOME sign, 13.9 cm high in total. LED tealights only, never a flame; the tray is not for food. More combinations are in Sets; singles for your own mix under home decor.

A vase without flowers: when the shape is enough

Fine vertical ribs catch side light; that is what makes an empty ribbed vase decorative. The Hoji is the clearest case: a smooth body flows into a narrow fluted neck with a collar, 24.5 cm high, 164 g. Empty, the grooves on the neck do all the work; with two or three stems of dried pampas or honesty it is still calm.

The Face vase is the piece we would leave empty most often: a stylised head, 17.0 cm high, with nose, lips and chin in profile on one side and the opening at the top. Profile turned to the room, it reads as a small sculpture; a few dried stems from the top work like a hairstyle. Ten colours, one vase per order.

The Shinzo is the opposite: a ribbed tulip vase, 18.1 cm high and 15 cm across, with short tubes on top for single stems and a larger central opening for a fuller bunch. Built for evenly spaced dried tulips, lavender or grasses; wide base, 340 g, stands securely on a dining table.

Where to put them and how to look after them

A sideboard or console takes the full set of 4; a windowsill wants the set of 2 or Hoji alone. On a bookshelf, measure the gap to the shelf above first: Hoji needs 25 cm without stems.

  • Dried and artificial stems only. The vases are 3D printed in PLA and are not watertight: no water, no fresh flowers.
  • Away from heat. Not on a radiator, not on the sill right above one, not next to a fireplace.
  • Light and shatterproof. 161 g for the set of 4, 87 g for the pair: safe on a high shelf, and a knock does not break them like glass.
  • Layer lines are normal for 3D printing. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth; no dishwasher.

Plants, grasses and LED tealights in our photos are not included. You receive the vases, or the set, in the colour mix of the chosen variant.

Questions we often hear

Can I put real flowers with water in these vases?

No. All our vases are printed in PLA and are not watertight. They are for dried grasses, pampas, honesty, lavender and artificial flowers. For a bouquet in water, use glass.

Does the set of 4 have the same colour on every vase?

Only in the White mix. In the other five each vase has its own colour: Contrast alternates black and white, Nature spreads beige, oak, white and chocolate across the four shapes.

Which single vase goes with the set of 2?

Something clearly lower. Both are around 18 cm, so the 12.4 cm Shizu from the HOME set or the 17 cm Face placed slightly in front gives the third height. Hoji would add a fourth level above the pair instead.
