Advent Candles Without a Flame: a Flat LED Wreath for the Table

6 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • Advent candles with LED: a flat snowflake wreath 18.5 cm across and 0.5 cm high takes four LED candles or tealights up to 39 mm in diameter.
  • The Shiro set (3 holders, 14 cm tall) lights the sideboard; the Tulip and shooting-star holders cover the windowsill and the place settings.
  • PLA and fire never meet: LED only, no open flame, nothing above a running radiator. For real candles take a fir wreath with metal or glass holders.

Advent candles are the one tradition that survives every change of decor: four lights, one more each Sunday until Christmas. In a flat with a toddler, a cat or a wooden table you are fond of, a real flame on a dry fir wreath is the part most people would gladly skip. Our flat snowflake advent wreath keeps the ritual and drops the fire: four sockets, LED candles only.

Below we show how we arrange it, which of our holders go with it on a sideboard or windowsill, and when a classic wreath of fresh branches is honestly the better choice.

Why LED advent candles make sense at home

A fir wreath dries out over the four weeks of Advent; by the fourth Sunday it is kindling with four flames on it. Add a child who wants to blow them out, a cat that walks across the table or a draught from the window, and the evening ends with a wet cloth rather than a carol.

LED candles solve all three at once. They cannot burn a tablecloth, they do not drip wax on an oak top. The trade-off is honest: the light is softer and the flicker is imitation. For many homes that is still the better deal, from the first Sunday of Advent to Candlemas.

There is one more reason in our case: our decor is 3D printed from PLA, which softens at high temperatures. So: no naked flame on any piece below, and no PLA decor on a windowsill directly above a running radiator.

The flat snowflake wreath: 18.5 cm, four sockets, 0.5 cm high

Our advent wreath is a snowflake, not a ring. It is 18.5 cm in diameter and only 0.5 cm high, so it lies on the table like a piece of lace instead of standing up as a centrepiece. It weighs 39 g, so it sits on a narrow windowsill or a shelf edge without worry.

The sockets take candles up to 39 mm in diameter: a standard LED tealight fits, and so do slim LED candles. Candles are not in the box. The wreath comes as one piece in the colour you choose, from 12: beige, white, black, oak, chocolate, grey, olive, silk silver, silk gold, pink, cherry red and green.

How we arrange the four candles

Keep the Advent count simple: one tealight per Sunday. Put the first one in the socket facing the room and add the next ones clockwise, so by the fourth Sunday the snowflake is full. Because the wreath is flat, a fir sprig or two laid next to it, not on it, gives the green of a classic wreath, and a pine cone fills the gap.

On a dark wooden table, white or beige stands out most; on a white tablecloth, oak, olive or chocolate shows the snowflake shape better. Silk gold and silk silver catch the LED glow in the evening.

Taller advent candles on the sideboard: the Shiro set

If the table is for food and the wreath moves to the sideboard, the Shiro pillar candle holders add height. The set has three ribbed stands in different sizes: small for a 42 mm LED pillar candle (7.4 × 9 cm), medium for 62 mm (9.4 × 14 cm) and large for 81 mm (11.3 × 9 cm). Together they take up 21.5 × 16.7 cm and stand 14 cm tall; the set weighs 490 g and each piece has a screw-on base underneath.

Three holders, not four: if you want the Advent count on the sideboard, pair the set with one tealight holder from the next section. Ten colours, the same palette as the wreath minus cherry red and green, so a beige wreath and a beige Shiro set read as one family.

Tealight holders for the windowsill and the place settings

Two small holders complete the picture. The Tulip tealight holder is a closed flower cup of overlapping ribbed petals, 6 × 6.1 × 6.2 cm and 44 g. An LED tealight inside throws the petal shadows upwards; a row of three or four lights the windowsill.

The tealight holder with shooting stars is a low cylinder, 6 cm wide and 7.2 cm high, with stars and curved tails cut through the wall so the light shines out through the pattern. It is the one we put at each place setting. It weighs 30 g and comes in the same 12 colours as the wreath. Both holders are sold without the tealight.

When a classic wreath with real candles is better

We say it plainly: if you want the smell of fresh fir and a real flame on Sunday afternoon, buy or bind a wreath of branches and put the candles in metal spikes or glass holders. None of our PLA pieces belongs near an open flame.

The flat snowflake wins where a fir wreath loses: on a narrow sill, in a rented flat with no storage, in a home with small children or pets, and after the holidays, when it goes into a drawer at 0.5 cm high instead of into the bin.

LED only, never a real flame: PLA softens at high temperatures. Candles and tealights are not included. Keep every piece indoors and away from radiators, stoves and other heat sources.

Questions we often hear

Which LED candles fit the wreath?

Anything up to 39 mm in diameter: a standard LED tealight or a slim LED candle. Candles are not included.

Can I use a real tealight just for one evening?

No. PLA softens at high temperatures, and a real tealight sits directly in the socket. Use LED only, on every piece we print.

Does the wreath stand up or hang?

Neither. It is a flat piece, 0.5 cm high, made to lie on a table, dresser or windowsill. After Advent it stores flat in a drawer.
