Gifts for a 12 Year Old Girl: Presents for Tweens That Last

5 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • At twelve, a gift has to earn a place in her room: on the shelf, on the desk or in her hands while she studies.
  • Our safest single pick is the dragon in an egg, 36 cm. For the one who draws, the Dummy 13 figure kit, 13 cm.
  • Our flexi axolotl, bunny and tortoise and the mini dragon packs are labelled 14+. We leave them out, and the card wand too.

Looking for gifts for a 12 year old girl, you find lists split into two camps: toys she has outgrown, or make-up and gadgets for someone older. Twelve sits in between, and most good presents for tweens have one thing in common: they look good in her own room and she actually uses them.

We print everything ourselves in Poland, from PLA. Below we sort our range by what she is into, not by colour, and we say openly what we would not give at this age. For the wider picture from six to twelve, see our gifts for kids sorted by age.

Her own room: something for the shelf

Around twelve, many children start arranging their room themselves. A gift that looks like a toy gets hidden; one that looks like decoration stays in sight.

  • Dragon in an egg, 36 cm, our largest, in a 12 cm egg. The dragon is movable, and on the shelf it can wrap around its egg. Eight colourways, from gold and black to white with a flower pattern. A dragon has no girls' or boys' version.
  • Sphynx cat, 13 cm long, with print-in-place joints in the legs, head and tail: it stands, lies down and stretches straight out of the box. Printed in silk PLA that shimmers, in eight colours including sakura and white.
  • Japandi vase, 9.6 cm, or the slightly taller Shizu vase, 12.4 cm. Ten colours each, from white and oak to sakura pink. For dried stems or artificial flowers only: they are not meant to hold water.

All dragon sizes are in Dragons in Eggs, and more for the shelf in Home Decor.

Something for her hands while she studies

Homework gets longer at this age. Some children concentrate better with something to turn in their hands, and it helps if it makes no noise.

  • Infinity Cube, about 8 cm long and 4 cm wide: eight small cubes joined by hinges that fold on and on. It runs without loud clicking and fits in a pocket.
  • Rose Spinner, about 8 cm, shaped like a rose with detailed petals. It spins smoothly, with no clicking and no rattling, and needs no batteries or assembly.
  • Impossible cone set: a cone and two pyramids, about 7 cm tall. The top travels down a spiral track and back, silently, and the silk filament shifts colour in the light.

If it is going to school, check the school rules first. Which fidgets really stay silent in class is covered in our guide to quiet fidget toys for school, and the full range is under Fidget Toys.

For drawing, building and fantasy

  • Dummy 13 figure kit (design: Soozafone). The parts come on two sprue cards: she pops them out and snaps them together, with no glue and no tools. Once built, the figure stands about 13 cm tall, moves at every joint and comes with three types of hands. It also works as a small mannequin for practising poses when drawing.
  • Magic Gateway, 19 cm tall: a phone stand shaped like the ruins of a stone archway. Put the phone in the slot with a matching wallpaper and it looks like a portal. It fits phones from about 12 × 6 cm to 16.5 × 8 cm. More ideas for the desk are under Desk Gadgets.

What we leave out at twelve

Some of our pieces look made for this age but are labelled 14+: the flexi axolotl, bunny and tortoise, the mini dragon 8-pack and the 16-piece dragon set. We keep them off this list, even though a twelve-year-old would probably like them.

The star wand card holder is also not for her: it is a gadget for paying with a contactless card, meant for adults. Knife-shaped fidgets we leave out too, and many schools do not allow them anyway.

If there are younger siblings at home: the dragon, the cat and the figure kit have small parts. Not suitable for children under 3.

Gift Ideas

Questions parents ask

Is a dragon a good gift for a 12 year old girl?

If she likes fantasy, yes. At twelve the dragon in an egg is less a toy and more something for the shelf, and she can pick the colour herself.

What is a good small present for a tween for Christmas?

The Infinity Cube or the Rose Spinner, 8 cm each, fit in a stocking. More ideas are in our stocking fillers and small gifts.

Why are some of your figures labelled 14+?

Those are articulated figures and sets with small linked parts, designed as desk toys for teenagers and adults. We follow the label and do not recommend them for a twelve-year-old.
