Gifts for Grandma and Grandad: Ideas They Will Actually Use

Good gifts for grandma and grandad are things they use every day, not things they dust. We sorted ours by where they will stand: windowsill, desk, bathroom.
For grandma: ribbed trays with holders for LED tealights and vases for dried flowers. LED only, never a real flame, and the vases are not for water.

Gifts for grandma are hard for the same reason every year: she says she needs nothing, and she usually means it. Gifts for grandad are harder still, because whatever he needed, he has already fixed himself. So we skip the ornaments that end up in a cupboard and look for small things that make a daily routine nicer, or simply make them laugh.

Everything below is 3D printed on our own machines in Poland, from PLA (the sheep is PETG, more on that later), and ships within 24–48 hours.

For grandma: a warm corner on the windowsill

Many grandmothers keep a windowsill that is a small exhibition: a plant, a photo, a candle. Our vase set with tray and LED tealight holder fits right in. You get the Shizu vase with a slanted opening (12.4 cm tall), a ribbed oval tray of 19.7 × 12.3 cm and one ribbed holder 7.8 cm across, all in one colour: beige, white, black or grey.

If she prefers light to flowers, the set of 3 LED tealight holders uses the same tray: two holders sit on it and the third stands beside it, so the arrangement can be long or compact. Only flowers? The set of 2 vases with a tray puts a 12 cm and a 9.6 cm vase side by side. Two things to know before you wrap them: the holders are for LED tealights only, never a real flame, and the tealights are not included. One practical tip: windowsills often sit right above a radiator. PLA softens above approx. 55°C, so choose a spot that does not get hot, not directly over the heater.

For grandad: the desk, the workbench and the model shelf

A chair that stays put

If his desk or workbench chair rolls away every time he sits down, the chair wheel stoppers solve it. The set of 5 covers the five-arm base of a standard swivel chair: one stopper per caster, each 6.2 × 6.5 × 2.7 cm, in white, black or sakura pink. They fit typical casters up to roughly 5 cm wide, so measure his wheel first. Consider it a small secret mission for your next visit.

A showroom for brick-built cars

Gifts that make them laugh

Some of the best gifts for grandparents are the ones that get retold at every family dinner. The sheep toilet paper holder turns an ordinary roll into a sheep: the black head with floppy ears slides into the roll, four legs hold it up, and the white paper does the job of the wool. When the roll runs out, the sheep moves to the next one. No drilling, about 14 cm tall with a standard roll, printed in PETG, which copes with bathroom humidity. The tealight holders and trays are for LED tealights only, never a real flame. PLA softens above approx. 55°C: keep the pieces off radiators and out of the dishwasher. The vases are not watertight. The mini trophies are decoration, not a toy: keep small pieces away from children under 3.

When to give it

In Poland, Grandmother's Day falls on 21 January and Grandfather's Day on 22 January, and grandchildren turn up with flowers, drawings and small gifts. In most other countries grandparents get their presents at Christmas, on birthdays or simply on the next visit.
