Gifts for Mum: Birthday and Mother's Day Decor Ideas

In short

A good gift for mum is something she would not buy herself but will see every day, such as a finished decor set rather than one more ornament.
Our Japandi sets come in one colour each (beige, white, black or grey): a vase with a tray and LED tealight holder, two vases on a tray, or three mushrooms with hidden compartments for earrings.
Mind the details: our vases are for dried flowers only, the holders for LED tealights only, and plants and tealights are not included.

Gifts for mum get harder every year. She says she needs nothing, and whatever she does need, she buys herself. And the question comes back twice a year: for her birthday and for Mother's Day.

We print home decor ourselves, in Poland, to order. Here is how we would choose Mother's Day gifts and birthday presents from our range, depending on what kind of mum she is.

What makes a good gift for mum

Mums rarely lack things. What they often lack is a finished corner: the sideboard where three unrelated objects stand. A gift that fixes this becomes part of the room.

It fits her room, not yours. Calm shapes and neutral colours are the safer bet when you only visit on Sundays.
It needs no upkeep. Dried flowers do not wilt, and an LED tealight has no open flame to watch.
It comes complete. A set in one colour means she does not have to hunt for something that matches.

Ready-made decor sets: the styling is done

Our most complete idea is the vase set with tray and LED tealight holder. In the box: the Shizu vase with a slanted opening (12.4 cm tall), a ribbed oval tray (19.7 × 12.3 cm) and a ribbed holder for an LED tealight (7.8 cm across, 3.5 cm tall). Everything is in the colour you choose, so she puts it on the sideboard and the corner is finished.

If she prefers flowers to light, the set of two vases on an oval tray has a tall vase (12 cm) and a small one (9.6 cm) in the same ribbed shape. For a mum who hosts the whole family at her dining table, the LED tealight holders set of 3 with a tray works better: two holders sit on the tray and the third stands beside it, so the display can be long or compact.

All pieces are 3D printed in matte PLA, light and not as fragile as ceramic. All combinations are in the sets collection.

For the mum who has everything: mushrooms with a secret

When the shelves are already full, a gift should have a small job. The mushroom decor set of 3 looks like a decoration, but two of the mushrooms unscrew at the cap and hide a small compartment inside, just right for earrings or rings that otherwise end up in a saucer. The biggest mushroom is a lantern (8.9 × 11.1 cm): lift the cap and put an LED tealight underneath.

Everything stands on a ribbed tray (19.3 × 14.8 cm) and suits a bedroom dresser as much as a living room shelf.

For the mum with a windowsill full of plants

If she never leaves a garden centre empty-handed, give the plant a better stand. The plant pot cover with legs is a ribbed cover on four small legs, 11.9 cm tall. Inside it fits a standard nursery pot up to 9 cm, so she simply drops the plant in as it came from the shop. It has no drainage hole: excess water is poured out after watering. It comes in ten colours, from beige and oak to olive, sakura pink and silk gold.

For a mum who loves dried bouquets, a single statement vase is enough. The Hiku vase is 17.6 cm tall, bottle-shaped, with dense ribs on its lower part, also in ten colours. How to pick a shape and stem height is explained in our guide to dried flower vases in Japandi style.

Birthday or Mother's Day: timing and what to add

In the UK, Mothering Sunday usually falls in March, while most of continental Europe celebrates Mother's Day in May. We print to order and ship within 24–48 hours; delivery to your country takes extra days on top of that, so do not leave it to the last weekend.

Two things are not in the box: dried grass or pampas for the vase and LED tealights for the holders. Add them, and the gift is ready the moment it is unwrapped.

Please pass this on with the gift: our vases are not watertight, so dried or artificial flowers only. The holders and the lantern are for LED tealights only, never a real flame. PLA softens above about 55°C, so keep the pieces off radiators and out of the dishwasher.
