Articulated 3D printed reptile figures on a wooden shelf with pebbles: a red-yellow-green bearded dragon on slate, a blue-green-violet chameleon on a dry branch, a black-green snake and a tarantula on driftwood

Gifts for Reptile Lovers: Lizards, Snakes and a Tarantula

In short

  • Reptile fans know their species. Pick by animal: bearded dragon, chameleon, snake, or the tarantula and scorpion from the terrarium room.
  • Every figure here is articulated and 3D printed from PLA on our own machines in Poland.
  • These are figures, not animals, and they belong on a desk or shelf. The bearded dragon, the chameleon XL and the 80 cm snake are 14+.

Good gifts for reptile lovers are harder than they look. Someone who keeps a bearded dragon or a python already owns the lamps and the books, and they will spot at once when a gift gets the animal wrong: a cartoon face, a frill in the wrong place, a snake with legs.

So we sorted our articulated figures by animal, with sizes, what moves and who each one suits. The list works just as well as gifts for lizard lovers, for snake keepers and for the friend with a tarantula on the shelf. No husbandry advice here: we print figures, and living animals are in better hands with their keepers.

Gifts for lizard lovers: a bearded dragon and two chameleons

The articulated bearded dragon is the one for someone who keeps a beardie, or would like to. The throat frill, the spines along the flanks and the fine scales on the back are modelled on a real bearded dragon (Pogona), not simplified into a cartoon. It is 25 cm from snout to tail tip and weighs about 92 g.

It comes off the printer in one piece, already assembled and already moving. It stands on all four legs, arches its back and wraps its ten-segment tail around a shelf edge or a finger. The head is a snap fit: one movement to take it off, one to click it back. Four silk PLA colours: black-green, blue-green-violet, red-gold and red-yellow-green. Marked 14+.

Chameleon fans get two sizes. The flexi chameleon is 17 cm, the smaller desk companion: the tail curls and uncurls, and it holds a natural resting pose on a flat surface.

The chameleon XL is 24 cm and about 68 g, with the casque, the big eye and the clasping toes that make a chameleon a chameleon. Its wide-toed feet hold a pose on the desk with no stand, and the silk filament shifts between two or three colours as you turn it. The XL is 14+. Both sizes are in Flexi Animals.

For snake keepers: from 21 cm to 80 cm

Our articulated snakes come in 21 cm, 27 cm and 80 cm. The body is fully segmented and flexible, and the silk colour blends shift in zones along it, so no two pieces look exactly alike. The 21 and 27 cm snakes are described as safe for kids 3+, which makes them the easy pick when the fan is younger.

For an adult snake keeper we would go straight to the 80 cm XL snake. It is a decorative collectible, not a toy, and it is marked 14+. All sizes are in Snakes, and our guide to dinosaurs, the axolotl and snakes sorts the snake sizes by age in more detail.

For the terrarium room: a tarantula and a scorpion

Strictly speaking, spiders and scorpions are not reptiles. But plenty of terrarium keepers have both, and the tarantula often lives one shelf away from the gecko. So they belong in this guide.

The articulated tarantula has a 20 cm leg span and a 16 cm body. All eight legs are jointed, so it can be posed mid-strike, mid-walk or folded flat. It is the one figure here built from parts: abdomen, body and leg section press together without glue and without tools. Sculpted hair texture covers the body, and there are five colourways. It suits someone who likes spiders rather than fears them, and it doubles as Halloween decor.

The articulated scorpion measures 13.9 × 13.1 × 4.3 cm and weighs 88 g. Its texture is crystalline and rock-like, the segmented tail rises into the strike pose, and the pincers and legs move straight out of the box. How print-in-place joints work is explained in which 3D printed animals really move.

Figures, not animals: what to keep in mind

  • Where they go: on the desk or on the shelf next to the terrarium, not inside it. These are PLA figures, not enclosure decor for a live animal.
  • Age: the bearded dragon, the chameleon XL and the 80 cm snake are 14+. So is the flexi tortoise, 14 cm, if the fan has a soft spot for tortoises.
  • A younger sibling who loves snakes: the snake in an egg, a 27 cm snake in a 10 cm egg, or the 21 cm snake. Adult supervision is recommended.
  • Someone afraid of spiders: skip the tarantula. The scorpion is a milder choice for the arachnid corner.

All figures in this guide have small moving parts: not suitable for children under 3. The bearded dragon, the chameleon XL, the 80 cm snake and the flexi tortoise are not suitable for children under 14.

Questions about gifts for reptile lovers

What is a good gift for a bearded dragon owner?

The 25 cm articulated bearded dragon: its frill and scales are modelled on the real animal, it comes in four colours and it is marked 14+.

Can the figures go into a terrarium with a live animal?

We made them as desk and shelf figures, not as enclosure decor. What belongs in a terrarium is a question for a breeder or a vet, not for us.

Do the figures need assembling?

The bearded dragon, both chameleons and the scorpion come off the printer in one piece and move straight away. The tarantula is the exception: its three parts press together without glue or tools.
