Gifts for Teacher: End of Year, Christmas and Thank-You Ideas

In short

  • Good gifts for a teacher are small and do not add clutter: something for the desk, the windowsill or the home.
  • Our picks: a gold mini trophy, a small vase for dried flowers instead of a bouquet that wilts, an LED tray set as a class gift, a quiet rose spinner for Christmas.
  • Some schools have their own rules about gifts, so ask the class rep first. The child's card matters most.

Gifts for teacher come up at least twice a year: at the end of the school year and before the Christmas break. By June a teacher has a shelf of mugs and flowers that will not survive the summer, so the real question is what they will keep.

We print small decor and desk pieces on our own machines in Poland, from PLA, and ship in 24–48 h. Here is what we would give a teacher ourselves.

When teachers get gifts, and what fits each moment

  • End of the school year. Often one child, one small gift and a card. After the last year of primary school, many classes give a joint farewell gift.
  • Christmas gifts for teachers. Smaller: something handed over before the break, easy to carry home with the marking.
  • Teachers' days. World Teachers' Day falls on 5 October, and some countries have their own date. In the UK the habit is mostly end of term and Christmas.

Some schools have their own rules on gifts for staff, for example one joint gift from the class or a modest value. If unsure, ask the class rep or the school office first.

A mini trophy for the best teacher

Children understand a trophy instantly, and a teacher reads it as a thank-you. Our Mini Trophy is a gold cup with a star, printed in one piece with the print-in-place technique: no clips, no glue, nothing to assemble. The XL size is 10 cm tall and comes as a single piece, which is right for one teacher.

The same trophy also comes as 10 cups of 3.5 cm, 5 of 5 cm or 3 of 7 cm. For a teacher who runs class quizzes, a set of small trophies to hand out is a gift used every week. More in our desk gadgets.

Instead of cut flowers: a small vase for dried stems

End-of-year flowers are lovely for three days, then the school closes. A small vase with dried grass or lavender does the same job and is still standing in September.

The Japandi vase is 9.6 cm tall, the Shizu vase 12.4 cm. Both come in ten colours, from beige and white to silk gold and sakura pink, and both are for dry stems only: do not fill them with water. Add a small bunch of dried flowers before you wrap it.

For a teacher with real plants on the windowsill, the Japandi plant pot has an insert with a drainage hole, for a plant from a nursery pot of up to about 7 cm (plant not included).

A joint class gift: an LED tray set for home

When the whole class chips in, the gift should look like more than one child could bring. The tray with 2 LED tealight holders is a complete set: an oval ribbed tray of 19.7 × 12.3 cm and two holders of 7.8 cm across, all in one colour (beige, white, black or grey). It is decor for the teacher's home, which makes it feel personal.

The holders are for LED tealights only (not included), never a real flame, and the set stays away from radiators: PLA softens above about 55 °C. More in the same style: home decor.

Christmas gifts for teachers: small and quiet

Before Christmas a teacher gets a pile of small gifts, so smaller is fine. The Rose Spinner is about 8 cm, turns smoothly and quietly with no clicking, and needs no batteries. It sits on the desk as a flower and keeps hands busy during long meetings. It comes in four colour mixes; the rest of our quiet desk pieces are in fidget toys for adults.

If you are shopping for the children rather than the teacher, see our guide to small gifts for school kids. And if the teacher is a colleague leaving your staff room, leaving gifts for a colleague has ideas for that.

These are gifts for adults, not toys. The vases are for dry stems only, never water, and the tealight holders take LED tealights only. The mini trophies and the rose are small objects and not suitable for children under 3 years.

How to give it so it is remembered

  • The card does the work. A few words in the child's own handwriting, with the year, is what teachers keep.
  • One joint gift beats twenty small ones. Agree on it through the class rep and collect all signatures on one card.

Questions about gifts for teachers

Are gifts for teachers allowed at every school?

Schools handle this differently: some prefer one gift from the class or keep gifts modest. Ask the class rep or the school; we cannot advise on the rules themselves.

Can the teacher put fresh flowers in the vase?

No. Our PLA vases are for dried or artificial stems only, never water. For a real plant, choose the Japandi plant pot.

Can I use real tealights on the tray?

No. The holders are for LED tealights only, never a real flame. Tealights are not included.
