Mushroom Decor: Where to Put It and What to Pair It With

In short

Mushrooms work as decor all year: in October they say forest and autumn, in spring they are simply a soft, rounded shape.
Our mushroom decor set is an oval ribbed tray (19.3 × 14.8 cm), a lantern 11.1 cm tall for an LED tealight and two smaller mushrooms with a small compartment under the cap.
Best spots: a shelf a little deeper than 15 cm, a sideboard, a bedside table. Keep it off radiators: PLA softens above about 55 °C.

Mushroom decor has moved from the children’s room to the living room. Rounded caps, ribbed stems and earthy colours suit calm Japandi and boho interiors, and a mushroom on a shelf says autumn without shouting Halloween.

Why mushrooms became a decor motif

Mushrooms are not a new idea in interiors. Mushroom-shaped table lamps were a 1970s design classic and have come back, and the cottagecore and woodland looks from social media put forest motifs back on shelves and mantelpieces.

In German-speaking countries the red-and-white fly agaric has long been a lucky charm, often given at New Year. Ours are the quieter version: no spots, no red, just ribbed shapes in one colour that sit comfortably next to Japandi vases, wood and linen, also after autumn.

What is in our mushroom decor set

The Mushroom Decor Set of 3 is a finished arrangement: all four pieces come in the same colour, so there is nothing left to match.

Oval ribbed tray: 19.3 × 14.8 × 1.6 cm.
Mushroom lantern: 8.9 cm in diameter and 11.1 cm high. Lift off the cap and place an LED tealight underneath.
Mushroom with a screw-off cap: 6.9 × 7.5 cm, with a small compartment inside.
Smaller mushroom: 5.0 × 5.4 cm, which also unscrews at the cap.

The whole set weighs about 185 g. The two smaller mushrooms keep earrings, rings or paper clips out of sight. Colours: beige, white, black and grey, the whole set in the one colour you choose. The LED tealight is not included.

Where to put mushroom decor

The set is small, so the spot matters more than it would for a large vase. Where we think it works best:

Shelf. The tray is 14.8 cm deep, so the shelf needs to be a little deeper than that. At 11.1 cm, the lantern fits between books even on a lower shelf.
Sideboard or console. Next to a tall vase with dried grasses, the mushrooms add a low, rounded shape in front.
Bedside table. The compartments take the earrings and rings you take off at night, and the LED lantern gives soft light with no open flame.
Desk. Paper clips live in a mushroom instead of a drawer.
Windowsill. Fine, as long as there is no radiator right underneath it.

We would avoid a mantelpiece above a working fireplace or a shelf next to a heater: PLA softens above about 55 °C.

What to pair mushrooms with

Mushrooms are forest decor, so they pair naturally with things from the same walk: pumpkins in autumn, dried grasses and twigs all year round. Keep the palette tight, one or two colours plus wood and linen. Here is how our sets compare:

For autumn we like the simplest pairing: the mushroom set on a sideboard and the set of 3 decorative pumpkins next to it, in the same colour. Beige, white and black exist in both sets. For more light, the four-piece autumn set adds a pumpkin lantern and a holder for LED tealights.

After November the pumpkins go back in the box and the mushrooms stay. Then pair them with a dried flower vase such as the Tayo vase (18 cm) or the vase set with tray (Shizu vase, 12.4 cm). Care and safety

LED only. The lantern takes LED tealights, never a real candle. The tealight is not included.
No heat. PLA softens above about 55 °C: keep the set off radiators, away from heaters and out of the dishwasher.
Light, not fragile. 3D printed in PLA made from plant-based raw materials: matte, light, and it will not shatter like ceramic. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth.

Important: the mushroom lantern is made for LED tealights only. Never put a candle with a real flame under the cap.

Questions we often hear

Is the LED tealight included?

No. You get the tray and the three mushrooms in your colour. A standard LED tealight fits under the lantern cap.

What fits in the hidden compartments?

Small things: earrings, rings, paper clips. The two smaller mushrooms unscrew at the cap; the lantern is for the tealight.

Can I mix colours within one set?

No, the whole set comes in one colour: beige, white, black or grey. If you want contrast, add a vase in another colour: the Tayo vase comes in ten colours.
