Autumn Table Decorations: Pumpkins, Mushrooms, Trays and LED

In short

  • Build the display on a tray: one tray is one arrangement you can lift off the table in one move when the plates come out.
  • Mix three heights: one tall piece, one or two medium ones and a few low ones.
  • Light it with LED tealights only, never a real flame. Our vases take dried grasses only, never water.

Autumn table decorations work best when they look gathered rather than scattered: a few pumpkins, a mushroom or two, a vase of dried grasses and a soft light for the evenings. Put it all on a tray and the table looks finished from September to the end of November, with no ghosts or skulls needed.

We print every piece below ourselves in Poland, from PLA, in matte colours with fine ribs. Here is how we would decorate an everyday kitchen table and a table full of guests.

Start with a tray

A tray pulls loose objects into one arrangement, and it lets you clear the table in one move when dinner is served. On a table you actually eat at, that matters more than any styling rule.

Our oval ribbed trays measure 19.7 × 12.3 cm (19.3 × 14.8 cm in the mushroom set), so they fit in the middle of a table for four. The quickest start is the autumn decor set with tray: a tray, a pumpkin lantern, a pumpkin tealight holder and a decorative pumpkin with a push-in stem, all in one colour. More ready-made combinations are in our Sets collection.

Three heights: tall, medium, low

A display looks calm when the pieces step down in height instead of standing in a row. We take one tall piece, one or two medium ones and a few low ones, and keep to odd numbers: three pumpkins look more natural than two or four.

Piece Size Role on the table
Tall pumpkin for LED tealights 16 cm high tall accent for an LED tealight
Butternut from the set of 3 pumpkins 15 × 10 cm tall accent without light
Vases from the set of 2 vases with tray 12 and 9.6 cm height comes from the grasses
Mushroom lantern from the mushroom set Ø 8.9 cm, 11.1 cm high medium, glows
Pumpkin lantern 9 cm medium, for an LED tealight
Holders from the set of 3 LED tealight holders Ø 7.8 cm, 3.5 cm high low, light at plate level
Large and small pumpkin from the set of 3 6 × 8 cm, 4 × 5 cm low fillers

On a dining table, keep the highest point modest so people can see each other across it. Tall pampas plumes belong on the sideboard, short grasses on the table.

Everyday table or a table for guests

Everyday: one tray in the middle

On a table you eat at every day, less is more. One tray with two or three pieces is enough, for example the tray with 2 LED tealight holders and one pumpkin next to it. Before a meal the tray goes onto the sideboard, afterwards it comes back.

Guests: repeat the group along the table

For a long table, do not build one bigger pile in the middle. Repeat the same group two or three times along a runner: lights, pumpkins, a vase with grasses, lights again, with room for dishes in between. The set of 3 LED tealight holders helps: two holders sit on the tray, the third can move down the table on its own.

Colours: classic orange, calm beige or contrast

The autumn set and the set of 3 pumpkins come in beige, orange, white and black, always the whole set in one colour. Orange is the classic autumn look. Beige and white are calmer, suit Japandi and Scandinavian rooms and still look right in November. Black works as one contrast group on a light wooden table.

For more colour, add single pieces: the tall pumpkin and the pumpkin lantern come in eleven colours, including olive, chocolate, oak and a glossy silk gold. Our tip: one base colour plus one accent. And if you are planning for 31 October with ghosts and skulls, that is a different table, covered in Halloween decorations that outlast 31 October.

Ready-made sets in colour mixes

These smaller ready-made groups come in fixed colour mixes, unlike the sets above: for example beige, white and oak, or orange and black, with stems or caps in a contrasting colour.

LED tealights only, not included. Also new: the decorative apple with a leaf (7.7 cm) and the pumpkin trinket box (8 cm), which opens to hold a ring or earrings.

Light: a warm glow from LED tealights

Autumn evenings are short, and a display without light disappears after dark. The pumpkin lantern in the autumn set glows through its slots, and the mushroom lantern has a removable cap with the LED tealight underneath. Tealights are not included.

LED only, never a real flame, and that is not a formality: PLA softens with heat, and an autumn table is full of things that burn easily, from dried grasses to paper napkins. With LED you can leave the light on through a long dinner. If you choose the single pumpkin tealight holder, 4.6 cm, it takes LED tealights up to 39.5 mm across.

Mushrooms and dried grasses: a bit of the forest

Mushrooms and dried grasses say autumn more quietly than pumpkins, and they can stay out long after the pumpkins go back into the box. In the mushroom decor set the two smaller mushrooms unscrew at the cap and hide a small compartment for rings or earrings.

For grasses, the vase set with tray and LED tealight holder puts the Shizu vase (12.4 cm, slanted opening) and a holder on one tray: grasses and light together. How tall the grasses should be is in our guide to dried flower vases in Japandi style, and more vases are in Home decor.

Important: our vases are not watertight, so dried grasses, pampas and artificial flowers only, never water or fresh flowers. Keep the display away from radiators too: PLA softens above about 55 °C.

Questions we often hear

Are LED tealights included?

No. None of the sets includes tealights; you buy them separately.

Can I use a real tealight instead?

No. The pieces are 3D printed in PLA, which softens with heat. LED tealights only.

Can the display stay out after Halloween?

Yes. There are no Halloween motifs on these pieces, so the pumpkins work until the end of November, and the mushrooms, vases and holders all year round.
