Gifts for Boyfriend: Something That Stays on His Desk

5 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • The gift that works best is one he sees every day: a 50 cm winged dragon for a fantasy fan or a stand for his brick-built cars.
  • For hands that never stay still: the 21 cm karambit spinner (no blade), the gear ball or the infinity cube.
  • As a small gift or an add-on: the 6.5 cm karambit keyring. Several pieces are labelled 14+ and all have small parts.

Most gifts for boyfriend lists fall into two piles: things he uses up and things he puts in a drawer. We aim at a third pile: something that stays on his desk and that he reaches for without thinking.

We print everything below ourselves in Poland, from PLA. This is how we would choose for a birthday, an anniversary or Christmas (Valentine's Day too): by what his desk already looks like.

Start with his desk, not with the shop

What is already on his desk tells you more than any gift list: figures, cars, a controller. Pick the type below that sounds most like him.

The gamer

The karambit spinner is 21 cm long, curved, with a finger hole and a ball bearing inside it. It has no blade and no cutting edge. He spins it around a finger or practises grips, and the bearing keeps the spin even and quiet. It comes in six colour versions.

If he plays with a headset on, the infinity cube is the quieter choice: eight small cubes on hinges that fold on and on in one hand, with no loud clicking.

The fantasy or RPG fan

For a fantasy reader or a game master, size is the gift. The winged dragon figure in its 50 cm XL version has a poseable body and wings, comes in four colour versions and is a collector's piece, not a toy. A smaller alternative is the articulated skeleton dragon: 33 cm long with a 26 cm wingspan, printed in one piece with the joints in place.

The Magic Gateway phone stand looks like the ruins of a gothic archway. It holds phones from about 12 × 6 cm to 16.5 × 8 cm and doubles as tabletop RPG scenery. More dragon ideas are in our guide to dragon gifts.

The one who builds brick cars

If his brick-built cars stand in a flat row, the car display stand set of 3 lifts them to three heights, roughly 2, 7.5 and 13 cm. The car clicks onto the studded plate like onto a brick and lifts off with no glue and no marks. The stands fit cars with standard stud spacing, for example models in the style of LEGO® Speed Champions. They are not an original LEGO part, and the cars are not included.

Hands that never stay still

The gear ball is an 8 cm sphere of coloured sections that you turn and shift. All fidgets for grown-ups are compared in our article on fidget toys for adults, and the whole range is under Fidget Toys for Adults.

Small gifts for boyfriend: when it does not need to be big

For a small anniversary, a "thinking of you" or an extra next to a bigger present, pick something that lives in his pocket.

The karambit keyring is 6.5 cm long and weighs about 11 g. A steel ball bearing in the finger ring lets it spin, and a split ring puts it on his keys. It is blunt, with no blade, no edge and no point, and comes in eight colours. The infinity cube, 8 × 4 cm, fits a pocket just as well.

Birthday, anniversary or Christmas: what fits when

Birthday: the moment for the big piece, such as the 50 cm dragon (all large ones are under Dragons XL) or the set of car stands.

Anniversary: something small, with the colour chosen carefully. The keyring comes in eight colours, from plain black and white to gold and silk blends.

Christmas: one desk piece and one pocket piece, for example the gear ball and the keyring. More ideas are under Desk Gadgets.

We print each piece to order and ship within 24–48 hours, but order a few days early so the parcel has time to travel.

What we would think twice about

The XL dragon needs space. Fifty centimetres takes up a good part of a desk, so measure the desk or shelf first. It is decor to pose once, not to handle all day.

The karambit shapes are blunt and have no blade, but they still look like the real thing. If he wants to carry one to work or on a trip, it is worth checking the rules there first. And if he does not care about fantasy, skip the dragons and go for the car stands or the cube.

Safety note: the winged dragon XL and the karambit keyring are labelled 14+. All of these pieces have small parts and are not suitable for children under 3, so keep them out of reach if there are small children at home.

Questions we get asked

What is a good small gift for a boyfriend?

The karambit keyring or the infinity cube. Both fit in a pocket, so they tend to stay with him.

Is the karambit spinner a real knife?

No. It has the curved shape but no blade and no cutting edge. It is a fidget that spins on a ball bearing.

Do the car stands fit LEGO cars?

They fit cars built from bricks with standard stud spacing, such as models in the style of LEGO® Speed Champions. They are not an original LEGO part and the cars are not included.
