Women's Day Gift Ideas: Small Gifts That Outlast the Tulips

5 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • Instead of cut flowers: a rose spinner, a small vase with dried stems, a star wand card holder or a tray with LED tealight holders.
  • 8 March is a gift day in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Italy, Czechia and Slovakia; further west it is more about events than presents.
  • Giving to a whole team? Pick one product in several colours, so every woman gets her own.

Looking for women's day gift ideas that last longer than a tulip? On 8 March a lot of flowers change hands, and a week later most are gone. A small gift that stays on her desk or shelf is a good alternative, or a companion to one flower.

We print everything below ourselves in Poland, from PLA, and ship in 24–48 h. Here is what we would give, and where the day is really about presents.

Where 8 March is a gift day, and where it is not

The date is the same everywhere, the customs are not.

  • Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania: the day is widely celebrated. Colleagues, classmates, teachers, mums and grandmothers get a flower or a small gift. In Romania it comes a week after Mărțișor on 1 March.
  • Italy: the Festa della donna, with a sprig of yellow mimosa as the classic gesture.
  • Germany: in Berlin it is a public holiday, but in most of the country it passes quietly, without much gift-giving.
  • France, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK: the focus is on talks, events and, in Spain, large marches. A present is not expected. In the UK the bigger gift day in March is usually Mothering Sunday.

Why a small gift instead of cut flowers

We have nothing against flowers. But a tulip bought on 8 March looks tired within days, and in an office where everyone gets one, they all end up in a shared jug.

A small printed piece stays where she puts it, needs no water and still reminds her of the day months later. Our favourite: one fresh flower for the moment, and a small thing that stays.

Our picks for 8 March

A rose that does not wilt: the rose spinner

The rose spinner is a rose about 8 cm across with fine petal details. It spins smoothly and quietly, with no clicking, so it suits a shared office. No batteries, no assembly. Colours: Blue-Green, Blue-Green-Violet, Red-Gold and Red-Yellow-Green.

More like it among our fidget toys for adults.

Flowers that stay: a small vase with dried stems

The small Japandi vase (9.6 cm) and the Shizu vase (12.4 cm) come in ten colours, from beige and oak to sakura pink, silk gold and silk silver. Add a few dried grasses or artificial flowers and the bouquet stays. Plants are not included, and the vases are not for water.

For a mum or a grandmother, the vase set of 2 with an oval tray (vases 12 and 9.6 cm) is a ready-made arrangement in one colour. Which stems suit which shape is in our guide to the dried flower vase in Japandi style.

For the one who laughs at the till: the star wand card holder

The star wand card holder is about 30 cm long, around 80 g, in dual-tone silk PLA with sculpted hearts. The star has a recessed slot for a contactless payment card or a pay sticker: she pulls out the wand and taps to pay. Five finishes: Sakura, Gold, White, Blue-Green-Violet and Red-Yellow-Green.

It holds a real payment card, so it is a gift for grown-ups, not a toy for children.

A warm glow without a flame: a tray with LED tealight holders

The tray with 2 LED tealight holders is an oval ribbed tray (19.7 × 12.3 cm) with two holders 7.8 cm across. The set with the Shizu vase, a tray and one LED holder combines dried flowers and light. Both in beige, white, black or grey.

LED tealights only, never a real candle; tealights not included.

Gifts for the whole team or class

On 8 March many people give something to several women at once: a department, a class, the teachers. Two rules help.

  • One product, several colours. Small vases in ten colours or rose spinners in four mixes: the same gift, but each her own.
  • Nothing that clicks. In a shared office, quiet beats clever.

For a friend or a sister, see our small gifts for women; for a colleague who is leaving, our leaving gift ideas.

When to order and how to give it

We print to order and ship within 24–48 h; the journey then depends on your country and carrier. Order a few days early, not on 7 March.

Add a handwritten card and, if you like, one fresh flower. Ready-made arrangements are in our sets.

Important: our PLA vases are not watertight, so dried or artificial flowers only, never water. Trays and holders are for LED tealights only, never a real flame. The star wand holds a payment card and is meant for adults.

Questions we often hear

Can I put fresh tulips in the small vase?

No. Our vases are printed in PLA and are not watertight. They are made for dried stems, grasses and artificial flowers.

Is the star wand a toy for a little girl?

No. It is designed to hold a contactless payment card, so we see it as an accessory for grown-ups.

Do the LED holders come with tealights?

No. The sets include the tray and the holders; LED tealights are not included. Never use a real candle in them.
