Articulated dragon coiled around its scaly egg, with an opened egg showing a folded dragon inside

Dragon Egg with Dragon Inside: All Four Sizes Compared

5 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • The egg is the packaging: two shells that twist together, with no glue and no clasp. The dragon inside is articulated and printed in one piece.
  • Four sizes: baby dragons 10 cm (set of three), winged dragon 23 cm, Chinese dragon 30 cm and the big dragon at 36 cm.
  • The 23 cm winged dragon is the safe pick for a child from about six; the 36 cm one usually goes to collectors. Not for children under 3.

A dragon egg with a dragon inside sounds like a decoration. Ours is packaging: the egg opens and an articulated dragon comes out. That is why it works better as a gift than a plain figure. It gets unwrapped twice.

We print these ourselves in Poland, in four sizes. This page is the overview we would like to hand to everyone who asks us which one to buy: how the egg works, what each size is like and who it suits.

How a dragon egg works

The egg is two shells that twist into each other. There is no glue, no clasp and nothing that can snap off. The dragon sits folded inside and is already articulated when it comes out, because it is printed in one piece with the joints in place. There is nothing to assemble and nothing to lose.

You cannot tell the dragon's colour from the egg. That is deliberate, and it is half the point: the person opening it finds out at the same moment you do.

All sizes at a glance

The number in each name is the length of the dragon, not of the egg. Where the egg size helps you choose, it is in the table; everything else is on the product page.

Baby dragons in eggs 10 cm set of three eggs the smallest, fits a pencil case birthdays, party bags, school bags

Which size for which person

A child of about six

Honest answer from our orders: the 23 cm winged dragon is the safe choice for children from about six. It is big enough to impress and small enough for a shelf, and it is the version people buy as a gift most often.

Birthdays, siblings and school bags

The baby dragons come as a set of three, which is exactly why they almost always end up at birthday parties or in school bags. One set covers three children or three party bags, and nobody gets the smaller present. If you need more, there is a four-pack of winged dragons.

Collectors, teenagers and adults

The 36 cm dragon usually goes to collectors and older children. The fun is in the reveal: it comes out of a 12 cm egg and looks far too long to have ever fitted in there.

Someone who likes a different shape

The Chinese dragon at 30 cm has a long segmented body that coils around things. It is the one for people who find winged dragons a little predictable.

How opening works

Hold one half in each hand and twist them apart. Do not pull or pry: the shells are made to turn, and a twist is all it takes. You do not need any tools.

The dragon comes out folded. Because the joints already move, you can pose the tail, the body and, on the winged version, the wings straight away. Go joint by joint and without force.

If the egg is a gift, let the child do the twisting. The colour is the surprise, so resist opening it "just to check".

Not only dragons

The same idea works with other animals. The snake in an egg is 27 cm long and sits inside a 10 cm shell. The egg with ten mini animals holds a small zoo instead of a single figure. For groups there is the winged dragons four-pack in blue, red, gold and black.

Everything with a surprise inside is collected under Surprise Eggs, and the snakes have their own page under Snakes in an Egg.

The 23 cm winged dragon in its 12 cm egg. It is big enough to impress and still easy to hold and to keep on a shelf.

Does the dragon need assembling or glue?

No. It is printed in one piece with the joints already in place, and the egg closes by twisting, with no glue or clasp.

Is a dragon egg suitable for a toddler?

No. The figures have small moving parts, so they are not for children under 3. We would start at about six with the 23 cm version.
