Stocking Fillers for Teenage Guys: Gifts for 13, 14 and 15

5 min read Updated By Kahaus · printed in Poland

In short

  • For a 13-year-old: the Gear Ball and the Infinity Cube, 8 cm each, or the Dummy 13 figure kit. Nothing labelled 14+.
  • From 14: the karambit spinner, 21 cm, the gravity knife fidget, 7 cm, the keychain set and the mini fidget dragons. None has a blade, but check the school rules before a knife-shaped one goes to class.
  • For his room: the 33 cm skeleton dragon at 13, the 50 cm XL winged dragon from 14.

Stocking fillers for teenage guys are hard to get right between 13 and 15. Anything that looks like a toy gets an eye-roll, most adult gadgets are dull, and some of the things teenagers actually want come with an age label.

We print everything below ourselves in Poland, from PLA, and we sort it by age first: several of our fidgets and one big dragon are labelled 14+. For a 13-year-old we would pick something else, even if he says he is nearly 14.

A gift for a 13 year old: work it out, build it, pose it

At thirteen, what lands is a mechanism or a small project. Nothing in this section carries a 14+ label.

  • Gear Ball, 8 cm across: a logic sphere whose coloured sections you turn and shift around. It spins smoothly and silently and comes in blue-green-violet, red-yellow-green or gold.
  • Infinity Cube, about 8 cm long and 4 cm wide: eight small cubes on hinges that fold on and on with one hand, with no loud clicking. It fits a trouser pocket.
  • Dummy 13 (design: Soozafone), a poseable mannequin figure he assembles himself. The parts come on two sprue cards like a model kit: pop them out, snap them together, no glue and no tools. Three types of hands are included, and built it stands about 13 cm tall. It also works as a drawing mannequin.

The sphere in every colour is under Gear Balls, and the cube sits with the other pocket toys in Fidget Toys.

The Dummy 13 kit and the mini dragons further down have small parts. Keep them away from younger siblings under 3.

From 14: stocking fillers for teenage guys

From fourteen, the part of our range labelled 14+ opens up, and so do the knife-shaped fidgets, which we would also keep for 14 and up. None of them has a blade or a cutting edge.

  • Karambit spinner, 21 cm: a curved karambit shape with a finger hole and a built-in ball bearing, so it spins evenly and quietly around the finger. No blade, no cutting edge, six colour versions.
  • Gravity knife fidget, about 7 cm: a flick of the wrist swings the arm open, then it snaps shut again. It comes out of the printer already assembled, with no screws to lose, and slips into any pocket.
  • Keychain set: a 12 cm flexi shark skeleton and a 6.5 cm mini karambit spinner with a steel ball bearing, both in the same colour. One for his keys, one for a pocket or a friend. From 14.
  • Mini fidget dragons, a pack of 8: each about 7 to 8 cm, built from segments that flex and coil in the hand, with no batteries or magnets. Labelled 14+.

School: before a knife-shaped fidget goes into a school bag, check the school rules. That decision belongs to the school, not to us.

The knife-shaped pieces sit together in Fidget Toys for Adults. If you are shopping for a grown-up rather than a teenager, our guide to fidget toys for adults covers the desk and the office, and for a brother of any age there is our gifts for brother guide, split by age.

For his room: a dragon that stays on the shelf

Somewhere between 13 and 15 the room starts to matter. A big figure works, as long as nothing about it says little kid.

  • At 13: the skeleton dragon, 33 cm long with a 26 cm wingspan. Body, tail and wings move segment by segment, it comes out of the printer finished, and the bony look is anything but cute.
  • From 14: the winged dragon, 50 cm XL, with a poseable body and wings and colour blends that shift in zones, so every piece looks a little different. A decorative collectible, not a toy, labelled 14+.

More big pieces are in Dragons XL, and all sizes side by side are in our dragon gift guide.

What we would leave out

  • For a 13-year-old: anything labelled 14+, and the knife-shaped fidgets.
  • Figures that look made for small children. At this age they rarely survive the first reaction.
  • A big dragon as a guess. If you are not sure he likes fantasy, the Gear Ball is the safer bet.

Questions about gifts for teenagers

Can a 13-year-old have the karambit spinner?

We recommend the karambit spinner and the other knife-shaped fidgets from 14. For a 13-year-old we would choose the Gear Ball, the Infinity Cube or the Dummy 13 kit.

Can he take a knife-shaped fidget to school?

Ours have no blade and no cutting edge, but that does not settle it. Check the school rules before it goes in his bag; the quiet Infinity Cube is the easier choice for class.

Is the Dummy 13 hard to put together?

No glue and no tools: the parts pop out of two sprue cards and snap together by hand. The display stand in the photos is not part of the set; the figure stands on its own.
